The Southminster Garden Build

March 26, 2011

Garden coordinator Gaby Vincent writes:

"Keith Galyan owns Galyans Landscaping, and he did so much to help us with the build, including picking up the compost and mulch and delivering it. Also he worked very hard with the layout and building.

"We had 28 volunteers come out and help that day. Even though there was rain involved, everyone helped and worked very hard.

"We had many of the residents at the center come and show how excited they were to have a garden by helping with the build and staying most of the day.

" Also a big thanks to Kris Reid, the Executive Chef at Southminister. She brought her family out that day and provided lunch for all the volunteers. She is also very excited to have the garden at the facility because it will provide fresh produce for the kitchen.

" The produce will be shared between friendship trays and Southminister.

"Henry Owen designed the garden and helped getting the materials to the garden build.

"He also built the two raised garden beds, which will be great for the residents. They provide ease for the residents unable to get down in the garden and give them a place to roll their wheelchairs up to the beds and reach the produce.

"The materials for the build were bought with a donation from a resident at Southminister."
